Halvemål is a linguistic phenomenon found in some Norwegian, Swedish and English dialects. An initial H is lost before a vowel, e.g. est instead of hest (Norwegian 'horse') or is added, e.g. høy instead of øy (Norwegian 'island').
In Norway, the phenomenon is found in dialects in Sunnmøre, sometimes also in Nordfjord, Sunnfjord and Nordhordland.
