Origin and Meaning
The English poet Sir Philip Sidney (1554-1586) invented the name for his novel 'The Countess of Pembroke's Arcadia'.
One theory is that he intended it to derive from Greek pan = 'all' and Greek meli = 'honey' or melas = 'black'
