Origin and Meaning

Icelandic name from a poem from 1832 (and a few other poems written later) [1]

Probably related to the northern Italian city of Parma [2], which takes its name from the river Parma on which it stands. This in return represents the name of the Etruscan people who lived here and who founded the town in 525 BC. The origin and meaning is uncertain, although it has been popularly associated with Arabic barma = 'circle' [3]
