Already in medieval times new name elements were added to the pool of Germanic name elements, such as KRIST and BOT.

In the early 19th century many new name elements with or without Germanic roots were added and freely combined with old name elements, e. g. MAJ, PER, BRITT, SÄLL etc.

Today, also Nordic vocabulary words are used as new name elements, such as ALDA, VÄN etc.
