Top 3

The most popular baby names in Denmark in 2020 were Alma (514 girls) and Alfred (520 boys).

Alma has been a very popular name for quite a while now. Its rise in Denmark began in the late 1990s. It entered the top 10 list back in 2015, and 2020 is the first year at the very top.

Agnes (456 girls) is on the second place. It entered the top 10 in 2017 (took a break in 2018 though). Since 2014 in the top 10 and now no 3 is Ella (448 girls). Both Agnes and Ella took a steep rise to the top from the early 2000s.

Alfred (520 boys) reached the Danish top 10 in 2015 and 2020 is its first year at the very top.

Oscar (516 boys) has been among the top 10 names for 9 years now. The second place is its highest ranking until now. Carl and Noah (503 boys each) share the third place. For Carl this is its highest place until now while Noah was the no 1 name in Denmark in 2016.

New Names on the Top 10 List

Ellie is the only new female name on the top 10 list, sharing place no 10 with Olivia. No name left the top 10 list.

Aksel (no 7) and Valdemar (no 9) are new among the boys. The names that left the top 10 instead are Malthe (no 11) and August (no 13).

New Names on the Top 50 List

New female names are Alva (no 49) and Johanne (no 50). The names that left the list are Eva and Mynte.

New male names are Vilhelm and Vincent (shared no 47) and Bjørn (no 50), which entered instead of Mikkel, Mads and Mathias.

Highest Risers and Deepest Divers

Ellie is the highest rising female name, from no 17 up to no 10. Matheo is the highest riser among the male names, from no 39 up to no 29.

On the other hand there were some names that lost in popularity as well. The one that fell deepest was Molly among the female names, which fell by 8 places in the ranking from no 37 to no 45. The deepest dive among the male names took Alexander, which fell by 12 places from no 22 to no 349.
