In April 2021, 12 names were submitted to the Icelandic naming committee for approval. 10 of them were approved:
Female Names
- Hneta: The Icelandic vocabulary name ('nut') was approved. Previously, it had only been used as a horse name.
- Iren: This variant form of Irene had been rejected before (we do not have a date for that) but now it was approved.
- Ísóbel: This Icelandic spelling of Isobel which is a Scottish variant form of Isabel was approved. Previously only the spelling Ísobel was approved in Iceland (since June last year).
- Logn: This name means 'calm (weather, water)' in Old Norse and Icelandic and was approved for female and male usage.
- Sturlaug: This is a variant form of Styrlaug, a combination of the name elements STYRand LAUG, and it was approved.
- Tatiana: This international spelling was rejected (again after the first try last month) but
- Tatíana: This Icelandic spelling of Tatiana was approved. In March, Tatjana had been approved as well.
- Tatyana: This English variant spelling of Tatiana was rejected
Male Names
- Eli: This international spelling of the Hebrew name was approved. Previously, only the spelling Elí had been approved in Iceland.
- Gormur: This younger form of GórmR had been used in the Faroe Islands before and was now approved in Iceland as well.
- Logn: This name means 'calm (weather, water)' in Old Norse and Icelandic and was approved for female and male usage.
- Noah: This English spelling of the Hebrew name was approved. Before that, the only Icelandic form was Nói.
- Seres: We have not found any information on this name, yet. In Iceland, the Roman female name Ceres is known, but a relation is unlikely.
