Origin and Meaning

Latin variant form of the Roman agnomen Hadrianus = 'man from the town Hadria'. The town Hadria in northern Italy has given its name to the Adriatic Sea . The city's name probably comes from the Illyrian word adur = 'water, sea', although today the port is more than 12 km inland. [1] [2] [3]
