Origin and Meaning

Origin and meaning of this name is uncertain. Some theories include:

1) Latinised form of the Old High German name Roho or of combinations containing the Old German name element Roch-:
Old High German rohōn/rohôn/rohon = 'to roar, to shout (in battles)' [1] [2] [3]. That word is closely related to the name element HROK, which occasionally seems to be given for a meaning instead, especially in Italian name books (thanks to Settimio for the tip!)

2) Latinised form of a Germanic name containing the word hrok:
Germanic hrok = 'rest' [4] [5] [6]

3) Latinised form of French roche or Spanish roca = 'rock' [1]

4) Latinised form of Persian ruch = 'elephant with an archer' [1]
